INCREDIBLY LONG POST WITH NO PICTURES. JUST SKIP THIS IF CANNOT TAHAN. IF YOU WANNA READ, FIND A NICE PLACE, GET A CUP OF COFFEE AND RELAX.

Okay. I realise I'm updating lesser and lesser nowadays. I just had nothing to talk about. But I guess I can't let this go on or my blog will grow weed.Flunyway, I finally found a topic that I can talk about. So yeah, one of more interesting topic here.

And the topic today is.......... (drum rolls...)

the difference between english educated students and chinese educated ones.

Interesting right? Okay, to tell you all, I'm from a national Convent school, so I'm actually English educated one. But for someone who has English speaking environment, I have to tell you that my level of English isn't something I should be proud of. You will often see a lot of grammatical errors in my blog. Of course, it's not too bad, but not too good either. Just, you know, atas pagar that kind.

Flunyway, the main point is not about my level of English. My family speaks Chinese, both my parents' side. So I know how to speak Chinese. And as a Chinese, I can't say that my Chinese is good too. So sad right?
And as a Malaysian Chinese, the 2 most important languages are English and Chinese. And Malay, when we go to Government departments to pay our taxes (no, I don't hate Malay like some people out there.Just, normal and neutral feelings towards it)

I have friends who are purely English educated, although they are Chinese. These are what, most people, would call banana. Banana, is usually used to describe those Chinese who can't speak Chinese. To be honest, if I were purely English educated, I would be offended with that label. I mean, among so many fruits, why banana? Why same name as my blog?
So then I asked my friend and he told me that it's because banana's yellow in the exterior but white in the interior. And he happens to fall under this banana group (he admitted it himself) but he's pretty proud of it. My sister's friends from China asked before why some Malaysian Chinese can't speak Chinese. And for them, it's a weird thing. And there are also a lot of Chinese educated people who'd look down on this so-called banana cos' dunno their mother tongue. As for my personal opinion, I don't have much to say about them. That's cos' I grew up living in the environment where most people in school speak English. Basically, I don't look down on them or anything.

But let's move one to the Chinese educated. They're usually not that fluent in English, more conservative and shy but unbelievably more hardworking. I've certainly seen my older sister studying till 1a.m. back in primary school but I've never had that in primary school. Also, those Chinese characters are hard to memorise and write. There'll be some bananas who'll look down upon these Chinese educated ones (well, some stupidly assume that Chinese is easy to score). Again, I've got nothing much against them.

For all I know, the best thing is always to be good in both. It's a big credit for you. I have friends who know only either one have problems it. I don't blame them though. I mean, it's not their fault they grew up in these environment. You can't force a Chinese educated student to suddenly speak English to his family. Later, he sure kena scold for not respecting his mother tongue one....so basically, you can blame no one.

But, I do have a little prejudice for people who don't know either language and yet not learn it up even though they have the chance to. When you're young, you don't know all these so it's okay. But then when  you're old enough to know things, then I think it's your fault if you don't open up to learn new thing which are rather important. Then you have no rights to actually defend yourself when people look down on you. Because, it's your own fault for allowing them to do so (but, to be honest, I'm one of those who are not willing to learn new language...so I accept the consequences I get also la..).

Flunyway, I think English edu and Chinese edu have their own weaknesses and strengths. Like:

English edu students:
  1. Tend to be more open-minded
  2. More daring
  3. Not shy to talk in public
  4. Usually appear more confident
  5. Not as hardworking as Chinese edu. Most of us are not willing to do homeworks until midnight.
  6. Hold on to study smart, not study hard. Thus, the unwillingness to study a lot.
  7. More sociable
Chinese edu students:
  1. Damn good in Math.
  2. Chinese also damn good (like duh...)
  3. Slightly more reserve
  4. Pretty shy in public
  5. Usually more humble. For some, they are so down-to-earth that it appears like as if they have pretty low self-confidence.
  6. Usually damn dislike the government (look at the conditions of their schools. If you see nice and pretty schools, it is donation from parents, not the government)
  7. Don't dare to mix much with the Eng edu cos' their English are not really good
These are what I can think of. And before you going to smack me or hit me or send me hate messages, read on. Read on.

Now, from the environment where I grew up with, I realise that some people will assume that purely Eng edu people have this sort of  "high class-ness" in them (okay lah...I can't think of any other words.. and this word is what we usually use). I mean, admit it, we all, Asians, are so influenced by the Western culture that we are starting to forget who we are. When we see a Caucasian (I'll just stick to ang moh instead of Caucasian from now), we have this sort of inferior feeling in us. After all, they're all 1st World countries and many of us are still developing. But one thing that I truly admire about these English edu people is that despite the fact that they don't know Chinese, they always appear confident and sometimes, even when people make fun of them not knowing their mother tongue, they don't get offended or anything.

If you dare make fun of Chinese edu people for not knowing English, they sure scold you back for not respecting the Chinese (which is true lar...you don't go make fun of people, right?). But then, there really are some bananas out there that'll look down on Chinese edu people. They assume that speaking Chinese is for a class lower and English is for a class higher....but these are my personal opinions based on what I see lah...

Basically, it's hard to judge things like this but the best thing is to just be good in both.

P.S. I might not update so much from now on since I don't have much things to talk about. So sometimes, I might update only once a week. Starting from July, I might update even lesser cos' I'll be even busier by then.. so if you feel bored, go back to my archieves and read my past.
