The Single Sex School

You all know my primary school is SK Convent Infant Jesus (1) and my secondary school is SMK Infant Jesus Convent. If in our tertiary education we also have Convent College, I think I might have entered. Then I'll be a purely Convent educated girl...

So, you all also know I come from an all-girls school. And one thing I'm not very happy is that how some people tend to look at us Convent girls as non-sporty type and see-guys-sure-will-drool kind. I'm kinda annoyed actually. And I think it's time we girls come out and justify ourselves.

When we enter Form 1, we will meet new friends (who are girls) from co-ed primary schools. When we enter Form 1, we all also go to new tuitions. And of course, tuitions are most probably the only place where we meet guys, hence the place we get boyfriends. I remember last year when my English teacher asked us who doesn't have any guy friends or don't mix with guys so much, a couple of us hands up and my teacher was like, "Ah..you all sure don't go for tuitions one. That's where you all meet guys what..."

Flunyway, when we're 13, most of us hit our puberty (around that time lah...) so we'll get shy with the opposite sex.

And then when we, all-girls schools students blush or drool or shy when we see guys, students from co-ed schools would say, "Whoa lau..you girls never see guys before meh??!!" Like, bloody hell! Of course lah we've never seen guys before. For Buddha's sake, we're from girls school. Except for brothers and fathers, we've never actually talked to a guy in a casual way before (I'm not talking about can-I-borrow-your-eraser kind of case).

But it doesn't actually mean we should get insulted right? It's not our fault we actually grew up in an environment without guys. They can't even be slightly more tactful or anything.

I actually wonder how we communicate with guys. What are the topics that we can and can't discuss? What are we supposed to say?
How should we behave in front of guys? While we usually behave like monkeys among ourselves, it's impossible to do the same thing when we're with guys.

Because when we do so, people say we're rude and acting like all high and mighty and the next thing we know, the guys hate us.
So then we'll talk softer and be more ladylike in front of them. But when some of us bloody do so, without ANY consideration, we're lumped into the hiao group. You know, people will start thinking that we only hunt to flirt with guys.

Aren't we actually in dilemma? Also what are the thing that can't be said to a guy? In school, we don't have to feel shy to say things like:

"Hmm..I feel like my chest part is bigger now."
"Damn, my period is here and I don't feel well."
"Eh..you got sanitary pad or not? I need to go toilet and check."

Besides all these, I get remarks for being not sporty. Okay lah..I admit I'm not sports kind of girl. But the thing is, I get this remark when that person haven't even actually know me! How the hell does she knows that I'm not sporty? Maybe from my skinny body but being skinny doesn't mean you're NOT sporty. They're merely making this conclusion because I'm from girls school. They're like, "Eh...IJC girls.. sports sure not good one."

Sorry lor, but to tell you, we have pretty good sports girls. Don't forget, in your school, you have GUYS! Of course they have better stamina. And we're considered pretty good already cos' we're all girls and we still win competitions. Plus, please lah, you all have guys and girls while we have girls only. So obviously your schools have more total students than we do. Let's say we take 10% of students in your school and 10% in my school. Let's say they're all schools' sports stars. Of course you have more students, right (do the math yourself)? So, it's unfair to label us like that.

The one thing I like being in girls school is that we can talk basically about anything. That's why we are rather open minded. We are okay with talking about lesbian, sex, time-of-the-month and bloody anything. We can also talk loudly, act in a not-so-girly way and we all sit like guys. We shout like guys and sometimes, we can do rough work like guys. I know in co-ed schools, rough work is for guys (I know because my teacher told us so) and girls do not have to do all these. In my school, we have to do everything. Climb up the ladders, fix the bloody class curtains, move the bloody heavy tables and stuffs. We are so open-minded that we accept anything. Lesbian problem in our school is like eating nasi lemak. I'm not encouraging lesbian but being in this school, I learn to accept them.

Somehow, I understand why they're attracted to the same gender. Think about it.
11 years. 11 years you're stuck with girls everyday. How the hell can you feel safe with a guy? What do you know about guys?
And when things like this happen in my school, the girls will be "attracted" to girls. Can't blame them you know. Curiosity to know more about guys becomes stronger and stronger and yet they don't have a courage to get near to guys. Some even worse, they don't even have a chance to meet a guy friend.

And then we all know the trend nowadays is that girls acting like guys. When we throw in one or two girls like this in school and many many crazy girls who so wanna know about guys, we get fake attraction.

I feel that these are not really major problem because I believe when these people work in the society in the future, these will eventually go away (though some don't).

That's why in girls school, we're rather open-minded. Heck, we don't even feel shy asking our teachers why condoms have flavours or why we need sex. And our teachers wouldn't hesitate to answer each of our questions.

Now, you get a little glimpse of what it feels like being in an all-girls school. We all have problems too and sometimes, we seek to be understood. XD
